Top tips on buying a used auto

Here are some really good honest tips for what to watch out for when buying a used auto...

1 - Check the dipstick, not just to see how much oil is in the engine, but to look at how dirty the oil is - the engine oil should be quite thin, not gloopy and not dirty. Yes most engine oil is a transparent yellow color and pristine when it goes into your engine, but the oil goes black over time, but black oil is kinda alright as long as the oil itself is still nice and smooth.

2 - If the car is jerking when put into Drive, this means the transmission might be wearing out.

3 - Make sure all of the dashboards safety lights work, EG for airbag and brakes.

4 - Make sure the cars VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is there. This can be found on the rear doors. Check the numbers match on all VIN stickers. Some car manufacturers do not put the stickers in the same places as other manufacturers, check the bumper and under the hood/engine bay for the stickers if not found elsewhere. Be wary of stickers that have been painted over.

5 - Check tyres for wear on one side of the tyre, check the tyre for bare wires sticking out. Do not drive the vehicle if there is any wire sticking out of the tyre.
